One of the questions that leaders like you are wrestling with right now is 'how do we do more with less?'
Whether your business isn't hitting its performance targets or you haven't managed to recruit the people that you need, the impact is the same.
You need to deliver great results without all the resources you ideally need.
Even for the most experienced of leaders, it can feel like an impossible situation when you're in the thick of it.
The good news is that I have three things that you can do in the next month that are guaranteed to help you get more from the (human) resources that you have available.
Number three will have an instant impact
1. Be guided by your strategy
The most valuable thing about a strategy is that it tells you what NOT to do.
If you have a solid strategy, review it as a leadership team and stop all activity that isn't contributing to your strategic objectives.
If you haven't got a solid aligned strategy, there has never been a more important time to create one.
2. Drive single responsibility with joint accountability
Somewhere, even in the slickest of teams, someone is doing someone else's job.
Whether that's because of a power grab or just a lack of clear performance measures, I'd wager good money that there is double handling going on somewhere in your structure.
And your managers are avoiding tackling it.
Drive single responsibility (it's one person's or team's job to do it) with joint accountability (it's every leader's job to ensure it gets done), and you will see the impact within weeks.
3 Stay in YOUR lane
When resources get tight, so many leaders roll their sleeves up and pick up some of the extra work their people should be doing.
It is admirable but completely unhelpful.
While you're doing your team's work, you can't be thinking strategically.
You can't be coaching, inspiring or leading change.
And you can't be creating a solid business case for more resources.
Doing your people's jobs is a sure fire way to maintain the status quo.
Get moving!
So which are you going to do first?
What is stopping you from actioning these right now?
And when the time is right, here are three more ways I can help:
