Hello again
As we approach our upcoming online session on Wednesday 25th February (10:00 to 11:30), I’d like to ask you to spend a little focused time preparing so we can make the session practical, honest and forward-looking.
Learning Outcome
The session itself will focus on shared learning, honest reflection, and team led action planning.
This isn’t only about revisiting workshop content. It’s about embedding the shift from “training team” to Capability Consultants and strengthening how you operate together, including clarifying the identity and brand you want to be known for across Tesco IMS.
Before we meet
Please take some time to reflect on the following:
First, review your personal and team action plans from the Newcastle workshop. What have you genuinely applied? Where have you stretched yourself? Where have you defaulted back to old habits?
Second, reflect on your peer observation experience. What did you notice about your redesigned sessions? Where did Brain Friendly Learning show up clearly? What consulting behaviours were visible in how you scoped, positioned or delivered the work?
Third, consider your stakeholder relationships. Have you approached any conversations differently? Have you been clearer about outcomes, measures of success or expectations? What response did that generate?
Fourth, begin thinking about your Capability Consultant Brand Reset. If stakeholders were describing your team 12 months from now, what would you want them to say? What should people expect when they engage with you? What standards or commitments should consistently define your approach?
Please come prepared to share:
One success you’re proud of since the workshop
One challenge you’ve encountered embedding the shift
One behaviour you believe the team now needs to standardise
One statement that reflects the brand or identity you want to build as a Capability Consultant team
The more specific and candid you are, the more valuable this session will be. My role will be to support, stretch and help you consolidate your identity and impact.
My reflections of our first session
I’ve added my own personal reflections below, from facilitating the previous session, that may help in your preparation.
Strengths
Strong professional pride in the impact you want learning to have across the business
High levels of care and commitment to supporting stakeholders and learners well
A clear appetite for moving from “delivering training” to partnering on performance
Good instinctive alignment to Brain Friendly Learning (BFL), particularly around relevance, reflection, and learner engagement
Openness to feedback and a genuine willingness to learn from each other
Development areas
Develop a Capability Consultant Team brand identity to reset expectations and strengthen strategic positioning
Letting go of the legacy “training team” identity and fully stepping into the Capability Consultant role
Adopt a shared, standardised consulting approach for scoping and discovery conversations
Improved stakeholder relationships in understanding strategic goals and business priorities to improve credibility of design, delivery and evaluation
Embed BFL as the team’s signature design approach across all learning content.
Introduce a consistent approach to evaluation, enabling clearer reporting of value and impact
Consistent review of all team activity and team led support of each other
I’m really looking forward to hearing what’s changed, what’s working, and where we push next.
Speak soon,
Matt
