Fighting with my son

This is probably the most unlikely picture of trust, connection and admiration you will ever see.

It was around two years ago, in a wrestling ring, fighting with my then thirteen-year-old son Sam.

We knew who was going to win (him).

We knew how he was going to win.

We know many of the key spots (moves).

But there were still risks involved, especially to him.

He is highly athletic and highly talented in the art of wrestling.

I was there to help him tell his story.

Despite my nerves and doubts, I had to let him do his job.

I HAD to trust him fully.

I HAD to trust in the process.

I HAD to let go of the control that I really wanted to exert (and get the hell out of there).

I did.

And we got the result that we wanted.

Have you spotted the leadership lesson?

If you struggle to let go of control, email me at richard@twentyoneleadership.com, and I'll share a short video with a challenge to help you loosen your grip.

If you just want to see me getting knocked off my feet, keep scrolling.
